Rights of the Child and Compasito-material
Teachers from Rastaala discussed the Rights of the Child and participation. The meeting was part of the Pupils Voice –project and getting ready for the new Curriculum in 2016.
First the teachers were given a short talk about
THE Convention on the Rights of the Child
There was a shortened version of the articles of the convention for the teachers to read and discuss. Groups of teachers discussed the articles and shared their everyday experiences. Then they were asked to pick any article from the text and discuss how it can be seen at school or in children’s lives. Every group formed a still picture of one of the articles and the rest tried to guess which article it was.
Teachers were also introduced to a material called Manual of the Human Rights Education for children. The material is called Compasito and you can find it here. http://www.eycb.coe.int/compasito/contents.html
Secondly we had a look at the Ladder of Participation which you can find on page 255 in Compasito.
There are 42 activities in Compasito for classrooms . Each group read one activity and discussed it. How useful they are in primary school? How would you do it in your own classroom? These notes were written down.
