Virtual Water
Cedar Class investigated the finite nature of water on planet Earth. The children discovered that the water we drink today is the same water that the
dinosaurs drank billions of years ago. The children in Rastaala school in Finland and Dunkirk concluded that the problem we have today is that there are
more people on the planet to share the water with.
Children then explored the content of 'virtual' water in their breakfast. This involved finding out how much water was used to produce all the food they will eat for breakfast. For example, how much water was used to make the bread or cereal or egg that may be on the menu? Rastaala school in Finland, The Lahore Lyceum school in Pakistan and Dunkirk all looked at this. The children in Pakistan looked at how they used water and came up with some rules as to what to do/not do concerning water. One rule was NOT to water the garden between 11am and 3pm. Cedar Class were confused as to why this should be a rule. After investigating temperatures during Summer during those times explained why!
