On the 8TH February, myself, Miss
Butler, Mrs Alford, Miss Parmjit and Mrs Quereshi went to Finland. It was an
International School Visit as part of the Erasmus programme. We worked in
Rastaala school in Espoo, Helsinki. We taught lessons to the Finnish children
that we have already taught to our own classes; we compared the work, showed
the children each others work, and looked at the differences between the
Finnish education and England's. Some of the work is below.
Each child in Mango and the 2nd graders in Finland each did an 'all about me' sheet so each class could learn about each other. The children in Finland were interested that we had so many children from different countries and the children in Mango were interested that the children wrote in Finnish.

I worked with s small number of the 2nd graders in Finland on the same needs and wants project as Mango did below. We got very different results. The children put health first, and asked why hadn't added school to the pictures. Once I had added school, they put that first saying that you couldn't have the rest without education. Mango thought this was very interesting and strange that toys didn't feature more highly!
Mango had to put in order the things that they felt were the most important - the things we need to survive. They decided that food was the most important and that toys were the least important. They then had to do the same activity with wants - toys were nearer the top of the list, as was chocolate! Will year 2 in Finland have the same ideas?
